The green economy promotes sustainable growth by reducing environmental impact and supporting low-carbon innovation. As part of UKRI’s Accelerating the Green Economy initiative, our Centre translates research into real-world solutions—co-created with industry and civic partners to drive investment, create jobs, and build regional resilience in emerging green markets.
Circular Economy
The circular economy replaces the linear ‘take, make, waste’ model with one focused on regeneration, reuse, and value retention. Our Centre applies this approach—guided by the UN Resource Management System—to embed circularity and ESG principles into critical minerals research, supporting sustainable development and attracting responsible investment.
Sustainability
Guided by the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS), we apply a holistic framework that integrates environmental, social, and economic dimensions of resource management. UNRMS emphasises transparency, circularity, technical feasibility, and stakeholder collaboration, aligning with ESG principles to ensure responsible sourcing and long-term value creation. Our work contributes to global efforts to secure critical minerals in ways that are ethical, resilient, and future-focused.
Community
Community engagement is central to our mission. We work closely with local partners to ensure mining brings shared value—supporting good jobs, inclusive growth, and environmental stewardship. Through collaborations with the Cornwall Community Foundation, we explore how investment, education, and transparent governance can build resilient, empowered mining communities.
Green Technology
Green technology refers to innovations that reduce environmental impact and support sustainable development—such as clean energy, efficient resource use, and low-carbon solutions. Our Centre supports the development and deployment of green technologies in critical minerals, from advanced extraction methods to circular economy tools, helping drive the UK’s Net Zero transition.
