Discovering Industrial Geology (DIG) Club
One of the core aims of the Critical Minerals Challenge Centre is to work towards opening up new industrial opportunities for local people. Based at the University of Exeter, we hope to encourage a socially and environmentally sustainable future for mining in the South West of Britain. We want communities to benefit from reindustrialisation. With this in mind, we have formed D.I.G Club – a network to promote industrial geology in Cornwall.
If you are interested in geology, mining, or what’s going on in Cornwall’s mines right now, join us for our upcoming events. You can come to as many as you want!

Field Trip to Wheal Martyn
This event is hosted in partnership with IMERYS. We will have access to the viewing platform at Wheal Martyn pit, learn more about current operations in the area, and discuss exploration geology in Cornwall.

DIG Club + Geolorn (‘Hey dude, where’s my geothermal?)
In this event, Kevin Mallin, from Geolorn, will talk about all things geothermal. He will give a history of its use and its future in Britain and Cornwall. Full of knowledge, he will provide expert geological, engineering, and policy insights in our wide-ranging discussion. Tea and biscuits will follow, with plenty of time for further chatting.
