Closing the Circle – Embedding UNRMS in the Circular Economy

Introduction

On 24 June 2025 , University of Exeter with support from colleagues at the UNECE hosted a webinar exploring practical applications of the UNRMS in supporting circular economy strategies improving transparency, and strengthening sustainability reporting within extractive and resource-intensive industries.

Aims:

Speakers shared their experiences, reflected on how voluntary frameworks such as the UNRMS can be used to align industrial operations with wider governance and policy goals, among other topics. The event took a broad approach, themes addressed included the integration of classification systems, cross-sector collaboration, and the role of critical and minor minerals in sustainable development. Presentations offered insight into both opportunities and challenges encountered in real-world implementation.
